CCM Book

CCM Book (2013)
Canada Cycle and Motor Co. or better known as CCM was formed by the merger of four major Canadian bicycle companies in 1895, and by 1899 had become a leader in Canada's bicycle industry. By 1905, CCM began producing hockey skates using scrap steel from the manufacture of bicycles and automobiles, and subsequently began manufacturing other hockey gear.

In 2013 my co-worker Matt Beeman and I had the idea to create a non licensed CCM Brand collection. We thought it would be cool to push the graphics a bit further than the NHL would allow us at adidas with our rights/deal. These would not be NHL team focused, rather they would be designed in team colors to go along side the licensed apparel currently being offered by adidas. We knew that CCM had a rich history within hockey but we knew very little of their bicycle manufacturing history.

We then identified three categories to focus on: Vintage Authentic Hockey, Bicycle History and Fight Culture. We focused compiling as much reference as we could find. Once we had that we went to work on redrawing old logos, ads, illustrations...etc. We also wanted to build out a small installation to display the collection, create a book, make stickers, print/produce samples, make flasks, and somehow make the installation contain various environments within it. We wanted the viewer to leave with an understanding of the history of the brand as well as revealing a great opportunity for us to pursue as a company.

A project like this took a long time to come to fruition, we worked on this as well as our normal workload. I wanted to thank all who helped this project succeed.
