Sailor

When I was a kid, my family and I lived a block from the lake until I was in 4th or 5th grade. Some of my favorite memories as a kid happened in that neighborhood. In a 4-5 block radius, there were so many kids that were mine and my sister’s age. Every night kids were outside doing SOMETHING (this was before the internet and iPhones - I think we only played video games when it was too hot or it rained). I remember a few of my friends and I would meet up and ride our huffy bikes down to the beach (which I don’t think we were allowed to do?) and just pick through the sand trying to find washed up, soft broken glass. It was always such a mystery to us where it came from especially when you stared out into the big dark lake. The imagination just took off. Later on, we realized it was from older kids having bonfires and breaking beer bottles on the rocks. Duh.

Anyway, I think my love for drawing nautical stuff probably comes from a bunch of those memories and the always mysterious, serious nature of Lake Michigan. Much respect, LM.
