Three wise monkeys
Toshogu shrine is the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu who ruled Japan for over 250 years until 1868 in Nikko. There are a group of ostentatiously built storehouses. Of the many colorful elaborate wood carvings decorate the storehouses, the most famous ones are "See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" monkeys. The three monkeys teach children how to avoid bad things in life by seeing, speaking, and hearing no evil.
Go check other wood carvings there too!
