Cohesive Complexity

This is a huge part of my authentic style. It seems to come pretty naturally to me or at least it’s something I notice in my work but have not given much thought to. I made these crabs to try and understand it in a more conscious way.

Here are a few guidelines that came out of this experiment:

1. Set a minimum shape size. Example: the white of the eyes are all the same sized circle.

2. If it’s close make it match. Example: the red triangle in the largest crab’s claw is the same sized shape as the white triangle in the claws of the smallest crab.

3. Squint a lot: It helps you see what needs to stand out more, especially as details get more limited.
