SEALIONS – RIGHT MOVES

Jason: A few months back - amidst pandemic lockdown - I was working on a new demo recording. I sent it to my boys from Sealions to get some feedback, and unexpectedly wound up collaborating cross-country to create a new Sealions track.

John: We passed some rough versions back and forth. Jason had made a visual in one of those emails that I thought really connected with this lyric he had about karaoke. So I ended up going down this writing path that led to a bunch of Japanese lyrics and a whole retro-karaoke vibe.

Joey: I'd been trying to pop some fun into the song production-wise, and with John's idea that really started to click. I was reminded of a trip that Jason and I had taken to Tokyo back in 2005. John and I took Jason's chorus melody, chopped it up, and reassembled it to match the vibe we were riding. We facetime’d with Jason to get his reaction to the new melody, and it sort of took off from there.

Jason: We let the process take us down a lot of different roads. It's been such a crazy year, and there's no better way to push through than to keep creating.

Joey: This is the first new Sealions song in 5 years. Show us the right moves. I think we could all use a little fun right now with so many of us facing hardships.
