NZSO Glory

What made the performance so special? What draws you in to the music? What forms a connection to the players? We wanted to investigate the narratives and history behind each piece of music to show the sheer drama and emotion of classical music. We categorised the concerts into sections - the glory, the passion, the colour, the heart, and the revolution of the NZSO - each representing an important facet of the orchestra. Using the musicians as the cast, we created a photographic tableau from the stories and legends behind each symphony.

This was quite an epic photoshoot. I photographed all 86 musicians in a variety of costumes and scenarios. Because of the sporadic schedules of the musicians, I decided to turn the reception of the office into the photography set using bedsheets to cover everything. I had great fun doing this - they are an incredible group of musicians.
