1000KM Run in 2021

At the start of 2021, I set a goal of running 1000km in a calendar year. I started this goal on the 1st of January, and 353 days later, on the 19th of December I achieved my goal! 1000 kilometres (or 621.37 miles for my imperial friends), the equivalent of running from Brisbane past Sydney, or New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Setting this goal was a challenge but, as the year went on, there was no doubt in my mind that I would achieve it. It took a lot of planning, strategy and organisation, and a commitment to keep chipping away at it week after week (which I still haven’t skipped, currently 96 weeks in a row). I ran in a lot of scenic places: Ocean City Maryland, Narragansett Rhode Island, Big Sur California, Upstate New York, Fire Island, and around our neighbourhood streets more times than not. I knocked more than 10 seconds off my average pace from last year, averaging 5’37” for 2021. The latter half of the year, I have noticed myself becoming considerably faster. I set new personal best times in every distance I ran. In particular, I’m proud of my 10km PB of 53:21 that I ran last week. I’m not sure what my running goal for 2022 is yet, but I will definitely continue running every week. As a designer, I wanted to mark this achievement with a fun badge. Thank you to everyone who cheered me on throughout the year!
