The iOS App Icon Book (Digital Edition)

Since launching the campaign for the hardcover book, the thing I have been asked most is if The iOS App Icon Book would get an eBook release? I always felt that was a little counterintuitive— as one of the motivating factors for making the book was to make physical what was only before digital. The point of the campaign was to make a beautiful hardcover book that would outlast the ephemeral nature of our work. An object you could touch. A prized possession on the shelf. The preservationist and the collector in me wanted to focus on that mission. So my answer has always been that there were no current plans to make a digital edition. Until now.

While I still believe all of those things, it has become clear to me that there's people that don't want to own a physical book. They'd still love to get their hands on the content though, as it's an excellent source of inspiration. I get that. So we've been working on a digital edition of the iOS App Icon Book that we're releasing today.

It's a 300mb high quality .pdf file and because it's digital we can do things that we can't do in the printed version— like make every credit link interactive so that it's easier to check out references for each icon.

We're going to continue selling the hardcover book for a long time (we just placed an order for a second print run), but we'll also sell the digital edition for those that want that tool in their toolkit.
