Dream Property Finder

Challenge & Approach:

Ever tried searching most property websites in an attempt to find the perfect & ideal home?

Typically, the user flow is to search by suburb first.

This generally works fine. But the underlying assumption is that users want to buy in a specific area as opposed to finding a dream home- and it could be! And that the home you looking for is not in the searched results.

We challenged this core assumption and think users may benefit from first defining what the ideal home looks like and then adding the preferred suburb - subsequently- or even multiple suburbs & neighborhoods. All of this is with a focus to help the user find the perfect home. In turn, adding a more personal approach to finding the perfect property.

Solution:

To solve this challenge, we used John Maeda’s laws of simplicity. Specifically the first 2 laws.

Law 1 - Reduce

Law 2 - Organise

Law 1:- Reduce.

We intentionally removed information that users find distracting, overwhelming and repetitive- as it relates to them achieving their specific end goal: Finding their dream home.

Law 2:- Organise
.

We then used law 2 to organize data. Our approach was to hide information & only show the necessary information.

The overall result is a clean, simplified Interface that helps users find their perfect home.
