Simplistic Gate Access

Challenge & Approach:

In South Africa, many estates, homes and apartments are access restricted. Some of those reasons include safety and privacy.

We had a look at how industry players are solving this solution digitally. Of course, we understand the complexity that goes into building any product. Such as, dealing with various dynamics and more. However, we created this interface in an attempt to showcase the additional user value that could be created- and in turn, create a more delightful user experience!

Solution:

In an attempt to find a fit for the product market. Product teams generally prioritize functionality, and generally, visual design lags behind.

To bridge this shortcoming, we zoomed in on one major design heuristic (process or method) & UX Law: The Aesthetic-Usability Effect.

How Aesthetic-Usability Effect helps:

  • Users often perceive aesthetically pleasing components as design that’s more usable.*

  • An aesthetically pleasing design creates a positive response in people’s brains and leads them to believe the design actually works better.*

  • People are more tolerant of minor usability issues when the design of a product or service is aesthetically pleasing.*

  • Visually pleasing design can mask usability problems and prevent issues from being discovered during usability testing.* The end goal is the interface you see now.
