Atekla | My own web agency

From freelance to running own business

In September 2018, my business partner and I created our web and design agency. We had already worked in cooperation for one year and felt it was time to switch from freelancing to business. We called our web agency - Atekla.

Have a look at Atekla's final version of the website, entirely designed by me: https://atekla.com/

My little dream

When I started freelancing as a UX/UI Product Designer at the beginning of 2017, I dreamed of establishing my agency to provide a wide range of design and web services to a more significant number of clients.

By mid-2018, I had already created over 15 custom-designed websites, and my business partner, a programmer, had also developed them using code. Also, at the beginning of my design career, I liked branding, so we used my graphic design case studies as part of Atekla's initial portfolio.

New horizons

Running your own business is different to freelancing. You have to do a wide range of various actions, you need to be a quick learner, try new things, and try yourself in different roles, and it does take a lot of time and effort, but I wanted to create the best web agency as I felt this business is a part of me.

While running the business, I learned how to manage people, think strategically, and communicate with stakeholders. I also learned marketing, CRM systems, targeting, sales funnel, etc.

Evolution of the website

In the beginning, Atekla's website was only a landing page. Still, over time I designed many different pages so that our clients could find relevant information about our services, the working process, and types of websites, and even read our articles in the blog section.

Currently, I designed 16 different sections of the website, from a Contacts page to a page explaining how we develop E-commerce websites.

Adaptive design

Since 60% of internet traffic in 2022 comes from mobile devices, making Atekla's website adaptive was essential. I designed the whole website for tablet and mobile devices while thinking through UX decisions to keep the mobile version of the website native and user-centric.

Wide range of services

While in Atekla, I gained experience designing and art-directing complex websites and applications. In Atekla, we developed many custom landing pages, company websites, corporate websites, e-catalogues, e-commerces, online platforms, etc.

UX side of the website

I tried to make Atekla's website user-centric and always kept the end user in mind. I wanted our clients to be able to gain all the desired information.

That is why I designed different sections explaining our working process and the benefits a user will get by ordering a specific website type. Also, through my design, I explained the advantages of our company by highlighting our key peculiarities and showing reviews.

Main services

My business partner and I provided all the services we could handle. I was responsible for product design, graphic design, branding, and SMM, and my partner was responsible for web development, SEO, targeted advertising and other technical stuff. We both knew who was responsible for what, and it allowed us to run our business for four years successfully.

Managing people and art directing

As a Co-founder of the company, I led a group of different specialists. We had two product designers, one graphic designer, two front-end designers, one back-end designer, one project manager and a couple more people on outsourcing.

I was art-directing product designers and graphic designers and helped them with design decisions. The projects I liked the most I designed by myself to expand my designing skills and try something new. Running my own web and design agency enabled me to gain experience managing other professionals, which I enjoyed.

Communication with stakeholders

While in Atekla, I've gained so much experience communicating with entrepreneurs of different sizes and people from the business world running big companies. Understanding how we, as a team, can help other companies to achieve their goals was the most valuable lesson. I also learned how to communicate correctly with stakeholders, designers, developers, and the end client.
