Team Sandbox

This is a design I've been working on for our internal IT team. We're creating it to test out building custom web parts in Sharepoint and try out some team site ideas for the impending Intranet project.
We're trying to open communication between the developers, systems guys and helpdesk by allowing members to post project descriptions, announcements on server outages, etc.
If you guys have any advice let me know!
