Google Doodle Celebrating Ramón López Velarde

Google invited me to illustrate a Doodle to commemorate the134th anniversary of the Mexican poet Ramón López Velarde.

I was inspired by the writer's poems and his context, but tried to make an interpretation through nature of what life meant to him with all its nuances, its luminosity and its darkness. I included dahlias in the illustration, which are the national flowers of Mexico, nopales, a Mexican woodpecker and hummingbirds. The theme of love and women as his constant inspiration are also reflected in this doodle.

Here’s a bit of the process to make the illustration (sketches).
