daughters of la diaspora | Playlist

ew playlist alert!

Omg this playlist has been so special to me. When I was planning on moving to Toronto I began to contemplate the idea that at some point I was going to feel homesick and that, like in any aspect of my life, music was going to be an important pillar to be able to cope with all those feelings. And it was precisely during that period that I came across the music of Lido Pimienta, who curiously is also a Latin immigrant singer based in Toronto. Then I remembered the bunch of singers I had previously discovered who are also Afro-Latino descent and that are using their voices to remember and embrace their roots while living abroad. So that’s how this playlist was born. ‘daughters of la diaspora’ contains musical gems by female-led bands and solo acts who sing in Spanish and Spanglish, so that every time I play it I can remember that I’m not the only one coping with all these weird feelings of not-belonging, of cultural shock and just trying to fit in.

This playlist is an invitation for anyone living abroad to feel closer to whatever they define as home.
