In True Grit, we get to see a completely unromanticized view of the western (technically southern) frontier. It ain’t pretty, and nobody’s grit is untested. The pull quote “You must pay for everything in this world, one way or another.” really exemplified this. It was these key themes that gave me the motivation to create a companion piece to the film. One that told the real, unfiltered story. In my opinion, the Coen’s succeeded in making one of the best westerns in American cinema history.
