Something @jmarkow said at Valiocon. I feel conflicted with this idea, because most often I make things using cheap and available materials to get things started. Paper prototypes are some of my favorite things to make, but I think the real idea is that if you invest in the tools and materials you use, you learn how to use their benefits best.
