Lonely Planet - Lists

For the past several years lonelyplanet.com has been using a card based layout to surface multiple content types. Over time this layout became a catch-all and the majority of the site became an endless array of cards, something that was frustrating both us and our users.

As we went into the redesign, we untangled and identified all of our content types, thought more strategically through which list types (and accompanying features) best communicate the content at hand, and strived to flesh out a light weight, easy to parse solution.

This is the start of a framework that we will be evolving, experimenting with, and improving over time.
