Instagram Split Feed?

With the launch of live video in Instagram yesterday, there is more and more functionality going into the top part of their app.

Since stories launched (which was done sooo well 👊), it's been difficult to scroll through all the people you are following to find a specific story you want to look at. Horizontal doesn't appear to be doing the job.

There's nothing quite like a vertical list to browse through a lot of info.

Instagram has been so careful and has taken its time with new features - I love how they built dedicated experiences for Layout and Boomerang.

It doesn't feel like stories will get split out of the core product, then it will basically be Snapchat. But I do wonder if the feature will get as much real estate as the main feed does today.

These sketches try and communicate that idea.

If stories is getting as much engagement as I think it is, it's possible it will earn more pixels in the core product soon :)
