President Obama launched the Opportunity Project in 2016 to provide easy access to curated federal and local datasets. This project turns government data into digital tools that help people solve problems in their everyday lives.

A small volunteer team comprised of our head economist, data scientist, engineer and myself joined together to design and build the Airbnb Opportunity Calculator. It was later selected to be demoed at the White House.

This tool allows anyone to calculate the percentage of their rent that could be covered by hosting on Airbnb for a specific number of days based on your zipcode paired with HUD data.
