American History Timeline

American history has always been one of my favorite subjects, so I had a lot of fun researching and designing this American History timeline for Artists for Education! I tried to really sweat the details, and over the course of this project, I became very aware of two things. 1) History isn’t always black and white. 2) Deciding what’s important enough to be considered “history” on a single poster is a huge undertaking for someone who draws for a living. I had a few teachers and professors look over it, but I know our perspective on history is always changing.

I tried to make a poster that provided broad historical perspective at a glance. For example, showing major shifts in American history visually through "turning points," and showing how long significant wars lasted in comparison to one another.
