IBM Makes: Events

We’re rapidly approaching the end of January which is our go-live date for the IBM Makes site to coincide with IBM’s next Variable magazine. I’ve been posting snippets of my design-in-browser progress on twitter, and we’ve just finalized the Event Calendar view where people can sign up for classes, workshops, demos, and more. How exciting! 😁

The rest of the small site displays an overview of the various projects—like the Make Lab—that are under this new umbrella, and a slew of blog posts about how we’ve changed the culture at IBM through making before asking for permission.

These side projects have been all analog and inside IBM up until this point, but we’re already working towards getting this up on the `/design` public domain for the v2 launch.

Our new typeface, Plex came out earlier this year, and there is a team hard at work creating a new design system around it for both Product and Marketing. In the meantime, we can begin building layouts that play off the core principles (like “always left-aligned type”) for side projects like this! It’s a chicken-before-the-egg thing, but it’s fun because what we make gets fed back into their thinking as the system solidifies.
