Crazy Rich Asians

I’m a bit late to see Crazy Rich Asians but I made sure to go see it whilst it was still in cinemas. As an Asian woman living in a Western country, this movie meant a lot to me. For the first time, I was the target audience for something on the big screen. The film depicts being an Asian immigrant with nuance and dimension. The cast was wonderful, especially Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh. I am forever thankful to Kevin Kwan and John Chu for handling the production of this movie with such grace. Did you know one producer offered to make this film only if the lead actress was rewritten to be white? This is the harrowing reality of whitewashing characters of colour that still happens today.

I hope the success of this movie means that Hollywood will take more chances on telling stories from all kinds of cultures. Because I'll pay to see them all.
