U ~ Ursula Nordstrom

Writer, editor, and children’s book publisher Ursula Nordstrom took the world of children’s literature and transformed it to appeal to children's imaginations and emotions. Under her supervision, for the first time, children’s books dealt with issues such as divorce, puberty, loneliness, alcoholism, race relations, unwanted pregnancy, and homosexuality—and handled these issues with skill and sensitivity.

Ursula is credited with bringing a talented group of children’s book authors and illustrators to Harper & Row. Her publishing highlights include Where the Wild Things Are, Goodnight Moon, Charlotte’s Web, The Giving Tree, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Stuart Little, and Danny and the Dinosaur among many others.
