Regenerative Agriculture

I read a great article in a Patagonia magazine a couple months ago about Regenerative Agriculture, and ever since I’ve been a little obsessed with learning more about it. The whole concept is based on improving soil health with biodiversity and protecting the microorganisms in the ground- so you can grow healthier plants without the need of pesticides, and chemical fertilizers. They don’t till the soil, which has been found to be extremely destructive to all the tiny creatures living underneath our feet. Another added benefit of “no-till”, is that all of the carbon that the plants have sequestered from the air stays in the ground, instead of being released back into the atmosphere. (Some of the farmers I’ve read about haven’t tilled their land since the 80s!) It is about working with nature, instead of fighting it at every turn.

As an “amateur gardener”, this has completely flipped they way I see all of nature, and I encourage anyone who’s interested to look into it more.
