H is for Hungry Hungry Hippos
This was one of my favorite games. Hungry Hungry Hippos was invented by Fred Kroll and it was introduced in 1978. The original version had the names Lizzie Hippo (purple), Henry Hippo (orange), Homer Hippo (green), and Harry Hippo (yellow). A later edition of the game replaces the purple hippo, Lizzie, with a pink one named Happy. Poor Lizzie was left out of the alliteration club.
I remember the commercial where the hippos formed a conga line and sang to the conga tune, "Hungry Hungry Hi-POS!" I would get that soooo stuck in my head. To this day, when I’m hungry, I still say I’m a hungry hungry hippo.
