Book Now, Pay Later

Installment payments are a popular way to book travel in Latin America with some 80% of travel booked via credit card taking advantage of the installment payment products in the region. Book Now, Pay Later aims to offer travelers a new way to buy their flights and the choice between a lump sum or a lesser amount over time thus tying it in with conversational commerce in an interesting way. By offering payment flexibility to travelers, we can improve customer satisfaction, conversion rates and generate margin.

The Problem

How can we offer people who avoid traveling because of their financial situation, a more accessible and flexible way to travel and pay for their trips without struggling to pay for it or other expenses?

Funnel Analysis

An important step of the process was to align with the engineering team around some of the technical limitations and understand how the booking funnel was structured in order ensure we would be able to position the installments offer somewhere that made sense from a customer perspective, but it was also to be implemented on our MVP.

UX flows presenting the current booking experience and some explorations to validate with the team.

UX Proposal

Together with the engineering team, we’ve decided to use a slide up transition, as opposed to the traditional push left, in order to create an enclosed experience and ensure that those customers who decided to pay over time would be 100% focused on setting up their payment plan.

UX proposal agreed with the team.

Final Solution

After putting an initial prototype together and validating our solution with customers through multiple usability test sessions, we were able to adjust the final touches with the help of our design system.

Final funnel and screens validated with customers and implemented.

Other Explorations

Just because the process is not always linear, here are some other proposals that didn't make the cut.
