Graphic Design / Illustration Paid Internship

Summer 2024

Based in Chicago, COLLABO is a dynamic planning and urban design practice leading innovative and equitable neighborhood revitalization projects that generate positive results and improve the lives of local residents.

COLLABO is seeking a graphic designer or illustrator to assist on a number of exciting national projects throughout the summer of 2024 (and potentially beyond). We currently have projects underway in IL, MO, OH, PA, SC, FL, LA and TX.

As an ideal candidate, you should be outgoing, energetic, creative and have an interest in community-centered work. As a smaller 6-person practice, you would be involved in a wide variety of projects focusing on neighborhood planning and placemaking. We are looking for someone who has prior work experience, and can potentially assist with a variety of tasks including:

  • Designing project logos and branding guides

  • Creating flyers, posters and other promotional material for community events

  • Visual notetaking and graphic summaries of meetings, potentially onsite and in person

  • Developing graphic templates and layouts for plans, surveys and other documents

  • Creating and updating project websites and social media content

  • Creating community-oriented banners, t-shirts and other materials

  • Designing short animated videos to support projects

  • Developing infographics to help summarize survey data

  • Assisting with the development of illustrated thematic maps

  • Developing signage, wayfinding and memorializations for an upcoming cultural trail project

We anticipate this to be a contract position at approximately 30-35 hours a week. We would prefer a candidate that could operate from our Chicago office, and we have a hybrid work environment. Travel may be required as we hold a variety of meetings, events and activities in the communities in which we serve.

We recognize the importance of inclusion and diversity in all that we do. It is highly important for our team and partners to reflect the unique viewpoints and background of our host communities.
