Digital Designer

The Digital Designer is responsible for creating and executing a consistent design vision across all verticals (fashion, beauty, lifestyle) of the Editorialist’s editorial content. That will span the site, social media, newsletters, assets for video, and some branded content. 

You will work with our team of editors, producers, and strategists to build an engaging, user-friendly, and luxurious visual experience for our readers through photography, graphic design, and video.  You’ll have a strong voice in the UX and UI of our site, particularly with our content and commerce offerings.

You have strong opinions on serif fonts, line rules, shading gradients, photo crops, and what comprises a good collage for a product round-up. 

You’re great at ideating compelling visuals for conceptual and abstract concepts. 

You’re skilled at cross-departmental deliverables.

You’re adept at working with photographers and editors on custom photoshoots for editorial and branded campaigns (bonus points if you’ve got experience working on remote photoshoots). 

You enjoy discussing granular UI details like the size of “Shop Now” buttons. 

You can handle a high cadence of daily art requirements for new stories and features without letting larger initiatives slip through the cracks. 

This position will report directly to the Editorial Director. It will work closely with our editorial, engineering, and brand partnerships team, our design team of UX and front end developers, and our global team of designers. 

This position is remote; on EST.

Responsibilities

This role breaks down into: 

10 percent: Daily programming the home and landing pages, maintaining the overall aesthetic of the site 

15 percent: Planning and process of bringing thematic unity for: 

  • Story templates
  • Franchise branding and bugs
  • Award packages and branding
  • Commerce elements to bolster conversion
  • Newsletter design 
  • Special package pushes and editorial campaigns tied to our edit calendar
  • Carrying elements through any content’s life as it ports across platforms

25 percent: Evolving our style guide, visual vision, and UX and UI.

  • Working with our edit and design teams to help create a visual guide for photo selections, social content, illo guidelines, and more.
  • Working with our engineering and product teams on UX and UI design features

50 percent: Image sourcing and creation

  • Photo research (work within Getty Images to ensure we’re getting the most from our account)
  • Work with editors and styling team on how to capture and create original photography
  • Illustration/graphic design creation and/or assignment, both with our in-house graphic design team and externally

 

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in design, with a strong focus on digital platforms

• 3+ years of experience in publishing or commerce industry

• BFA or BA in Graphic Design or related field

• Must be very fluent in Adobe suite software, CMS fluency (WordPress, specifically),  

- Must have some UX and UI experience, preferably with content and/or commerce sites
