This shot is to accept and join the challenge "to express yourself with .Me!"
Aside from visual design, I think the top most important element for a homepage especially if you are a designer showcasing your portfolio is the "Navigation".
The navigation and the menu items should be straightforward and easily accessible by your clients especially people who have limited knowledge in design / web design navigation. They should always know exactly where they are on the website and have easy access to where they would like to be. Visual design is also important but as a designer "functionality" should be the top most priority.
