International Equal Pay Day

Today we recognize #InternationalEqualPayDay, a day created by United Nations to acknowledge the far-too-slow progress of closing the #wagegap.

How much less do women earn than men? Here are some stats from UN Women:

đź’° Globally, women earn an average of 84 percent of what men earn. (The gap is even greater for women of color and women with children).

⌛ It will take the next 257 years to close the global gender pay gap at the current rate.

⚖️ Women carry out three times more unpaid domestic and care work than men.

Note: This data was collected before the COVID-19 pandemic; women have been among the worst affected by the pandemic regarding income security and division of family responsibilities.

The gender pay gap is rooted in systemic inequalities and achieving #equalpay is an important milestone we must continue to work towards. Share if you agree, and let’s keep the conversation going.
