Guacamaya (Scarlet Macaw) Hand Drawn Illustration

This piece depicts a heavily stylized Scarlet Macaw (or Guacamaya in Spanish). The piece was inspired by some of the patterns and styles I observed carved in stone and painted on pottery at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. This piece is an homage to the stylization, colors, and uniqueness of both the ancient and contemporary art around CDMX. The coiling, spiral composition of this piece is also loosely inspired by the legend of the "serpiente emplumada," or feathered serpent an important mythological creature popular in Mesoamerica. This piece was digitally hand drawn using an iPad and Apple Pencil.

Prints can be purchased here and more work can be seen here. Want to work together or hear more about what I do? Start the conversation here.

Although this piece was designed to be a giclée print on archival fine art paper, a 5 color design like this one can lend itself very well to a screen print for apparel or be used on any other type of promotional merchandise.
