*Case Study* International eSIM App

Case study for an international eSIM app that allows users to purchase international data from their own device.

Concept Research

The days of swapping out physical SIM cards from the hidden trap door in your phone are in the past thanks to the growing prevalence of eSIM in premium phones. An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is programmed into your device's hardware and can house up to 8 lines according to apple. With tech giants going eSIM only, the affordable option of purchasing pay-as-you-go physical SIMS from local carriers in a new country will become obsolete.

US Mobile has offered International Data to domestic subscribers within their existing web apps since late 2020. New customers were being acquired from telecom giants such as Verizon and T-mobile due to their flexible and affordable international data offerings. Cost, value, and ease are proven to be paramount factors in users choosing their providers. Since US mobile can offer great rates on a la carte data packages, the app would create a new acquisition channel for subscribers. We interviewed users of US mobile existing domestic service to gleam insights on the eSIM activation process.
