2023

When I was a kid, nothing was better than art class.  It was the part of the day I looked forward to.  It was something that just made sense it my head.  I was always the teacher’s favorite because I did an alright job, but also because she could see the way it lit up my face and the way that I listened.  I have an early memory of everyone in my class wanting me to write their name in “bubble letters” because they just loved how I did it.  4th grade, man.

When I was choosing what to do in college, I was lost.  I switched majors, never even considering graphic design.  I would be sitting in my anatomy class, history class or economics class doodling down ideas that came into my head, constantly.  (Don’t tell my mom).  It wasn’t until I was in grad school for marketing that I truly was able to narrow in on what I was so passionate about.  Being exposed to different types of design in just a few marketing classes locked this in for me.  I guess I never realized this could be a whole career?  Silly me.

Since then, I have felt tentative to pursue and share projects that I have come up with because they might not be “good enough.” I have promised myself that in 2023 I will push myself.  Even if I am not creating the “best” designs in the world, I have promised myself that I will try, so here I am!

Plus, “best” is a relative term, right?
