辞書 by 物書堂

　アップルが「辞書」アプリを作ったらどうなるか、というコンセプトで設計を進めました。クライアントは Books や Music、Podcasts などアップル純正のアイコンと並べても違和感のない見た目にすることを最も重要視していました。物書堂の辞書ユーザは若い人が多いというデータがあったので、アイコンの色は明るめの瑞々しいものを選択しました。

The development process was based on the concept of what would happen if Apple created a "Dictionary" application for iOS. The client was most concerned about making the icon look and feel right alongside Apple's default icons such as Books, Music, and Podcasts. Data showed that many users of their dictionaries are young, so we chose bright, fresh colors for the icon.

App of the Day

　これは「辞書 by 物書堂」の Apple App of the Day のために用意した素材です。さまざまな事情が重なりこのレンダリング画像が使われることはありませんでしたが、記録のためにここで紹介します。

　使用したソフトウェアは Maxon Cinema 4D と Autodesk Arnold です。プラットフォームではフラットなスタイルが多い中、3Dレンダリングの素材が欲しいということでこちらを用意しました。過度に写実的にならないようフィルライトを強めに設定して陰影を柔らかく処理しています。テクスチャリングも必要最低限で簡素なものを目指しました。

This materials is prepared for the Apple App of the Day for Dictionaries by Monokakido. Due to various circumstances, this rendered image was never used, but I would like to present it here for the record.

The software used was Maxon Cinema 4D and the Autodesk Arnold. While there are many flat styles on the platform, they wanted a 3D rendering of the material, so I prepared this one. To avoid being overly photorealistic, the fill light was set to strong to soften the shadows. I also aimed for minimal and simple texturing.

単語帳 by 物書堂

　基になるデザインが既にあったので、それを極力変えず洗練させるのがクライアントから課せられたタスクでした。オリジナルはカードが一枚だけだったので、単語帳のイメージを出す為にカードを三枚に変更します。更にそれを束ねるリングも追加しました。カードの角度はオリジナルの45度から安定感のある角度に変更して、個々のカードの透明度で深みを表現しました。

The original design already existed, so my task was to refine it without changing it as much as possible. The original had only one card, so I will change it to three cards to create the image of a word book. And I also added a ring to bind them together. The angle of the card was changed from the original 45 degrees to a more stable angle, and the transparency of the individual cards expresses depth.
