Pollinator Project

The mission of Pollinator Project is to make people knowledgeable and active about creating habitats for pollinators. The service is designed to create a network within communities for providing pollinators with abundant habitats and food sources for each season. This vision is achieved through a series of subscription boxes.

These boxes guide participants through a year of planting and growing their own pollinator garden. Each box has a different focus for each season, and its contents are tailored to the user’s needs and preferences.

When brainstorming for this project, I noticed an opportunity to engage communities with the issue of honeybee decline. As someone with beekeeping experience, I was familiar with the foraging behaviors of bees and how a lack of viable food sources is impacting colony survival.

My team started by examining the impacts of pollinators and the factors contributing to the loss of honeybees. We included in our research several case studies of initiatives that were already working to improve pollinator health in different communities. We used this research to guide the creation of four personas and a user journey of initial touchpoints.

I collaborated with Kristina Rozakis and Peyton Tucker to develop the elements of Service, Interaction, and Brand Design (respectively). We created an online hub that included a questionnaire for matching users with the right box, an events calendar to engage the community throughout the year, and an interactive map that visualized participating pollinator gardens. We designed our subscription boxes with the seasons in mind, and considered how the contents and messaging of each box would guide users through a journey of planting and learning. Finally, we developed a playful visual identity that embodied our brand values and unified our touchpoints.
