SOPHIE Magazine

Excited to finally share with y’all the first piece I did during my Specialization Studio class at Seneca. I decided to go with the Editorial Illustration field so, as part of my graduation project, I got to work on my self-published independent magazine!

Named after Sophie Xeon, a trans DJ and producer who pioneered contemporary experimental electronic music, SOPHIE was created as an act of resistance, as an advocate of diversity and as a strong cry of pride. Its mission is to serve as a spotlight for queer musicians of the modern era and to amplify the voices of communities that need and deserve to be heard.

This is the cover design I created for the first issue of the magazine under guidance of Salini Perera. I found Salini’s work right before enrolling into the Editorial Illustration option and I knew right away I was going to be in right hands with such talented and wholesome illustrator as my teacher… and, indeed, I was lucky enough to get the most valuable feedback and knowledge ever throughout the process of this project. Thanks Salini! ✨
