I spent a good deal of time focusing on creating my own unique design, but ultimately landed on this. Although it doesn't give me the "wow" factor I always shoot for, it's familiar to users who want a simple, easy-to-use user interface. UI design isn't about satisfying my own ego, but helping users along in their journey.
