iComics v1.0 Prototype Icon (2012)

Taken on September 5, 2012, this was one of the first icons I painted in Photoshop for v1.0 of iComics.

This was back in the full-swing of pre-iOS 7, when glossy was extra cool.

My original thought process was 'iBooks-like, but cooler'. The app had a lot of black bars, and so the black wood colour texture seemed to make sense.

Sadly, after showing it to a lot of friends, it was pretty obvious that using a speech bubble for the icon was a terrible idea. The speech bubble glyph already represents chatting/messaging, and even though it's a text book icon of comic books, it ended up being scrapped.

Still, I liked how this one came out. :)
