Heath tiger beetle

Heath tiger beetle
Very much restricted to lowland heathland, this extremely rare beetle is nationally restricted to a few key sites in the New Forest, Surrey Heaths and in Sussex. It is a lightning-fast, fierce predator with large eyes and an impressive pair of jaws. Due to habitat destruction, over half of this tiger beetles numbers have disappeared in the last 20 years.
